Galway Bay 10 one of the biggest single fundraising events in country with backing of sponsors galwaynews.ie and
Arrabawn co-op
July 12th 2007 – The official launch of the 2007 Galway Bay 10 took place today at the Galway Bay Hotel and was well attended by many of the event’s sponsors and supporters. The Galway Bay 10 will take place on 6th October at 2pm. Bernard Duffy, chairperson of the Galway Bay 10 organising committee encouraged people all over the west and beyond to ‘go the extra mile for Cancer Care West’. Following the spectacular success of last year’s event, the 2007 race looks set to be bigger than ever. Ambitious targets have been set and the goal is to raise €300,000 and attract 1,000 entrants to this year’s race. This goal certainly seems well within reach with the support of local media sponsor galwaynews.ie, which is backed by Connacht Tribune and Galway Bay Fm. The event has also attracted the sponsorship of Arrabawn co-op for the first time.
David Hickey, Chief Executive of Connacht Tribune said, “Connacht Tribune and galwaynews.ie are delighted to support this fantastic race which will help to raise the vital funding Cancer Care West require to continue their excellent work. We are calling on runners of all ability throughout the province to get training, enter this year’s Galway Bay 10 and help not only meet but in fact exceed the fundraising target set so that Cancer Care West can continue to develop cancer support services for cancer patients from the West of Ireland.”
Chief Executive and current affairs presenter, Keith Finnegan, who helped make last year’s event so successful said, “Galway Bay FM is delighted to support an event like this which will have such a positive effect on cancer patients in the West of Ireland. We look forward to working with Galway Bay 10 to raise awareness of the event and its cause in Galway and beyond”
Galway Bay 10 received great support from individuals and local companies last year, including the Galway Bay Hotel, Galway Oyster Festival Committee and the Western Branch of the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists.
The race route changes slightly this year and participants will set off from South Park surrounded by the beauty of the glistening bay. The route will wind its way through some of the most scenic areas of Galway and Salthill and finish up at Nimmos Pier where the fun continues with a post race celebration and presentation of prizes. Chairperson of Galway Bay 10 Bernard Duffy said “we wanted to create an event for ordinary people that would have an extraordinary outcome and I think we have achieved this with the Galway Bay 10.”
People from all over the West are being asked to sign up as soon as possible to ‘Go the Extra Mile’ for Cancer Care West. Further information, entry forms and sponsorship cards are available from the Galway Bay 10 office at 1890 400 200 or online at www.galwaybay10.com.
